Web Developer - Front-End Interfaces
Date: 27 May 2026
Location: Regional, VIC, AU
Company: DEECA
The position supports a $30M Strategic Partnership that is using digital and genomic innovation to transform the Australian Grains Genebank (AGG) into a bio‑digital resource centre. The AGG is the national centre for grain crop genetic resources, mandated to acquire, conserve and distribute these resources to underpin the development of more resilient and productive crop varieties. The Strategic Partnership aims to unlock the genetic potential of plant genetic resources to accelerate cereal, oilseed and pulse crop improvement for the benefit of the Australian grains industry.
In this role, you will provide technical support for the development of novel software tools, databases and processes to realise the Partnership’s objectives. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team that generates and integrates genotypic, phenotypic and other genebank‑related data. Key responsibilities include designing front-end visualisations and interfaces, implementing software code under the supervision and support of senior team members, administering servers, and installing and migrating databases and software.
You will be highly motivated and have demonstrated experience developing modern, data‑driven web applications with a strong emphasis on front‑end interface design and interactive data visualisation, using frameworks such as React.js, Next.js and web component architectures. You will have experience integrating and visualising complex datasets from APIs and backend data services, translating heterogeneous biological and genebank data into intuitive, user‑centred interfaces for industry and research users. You will bring experience deploying and operating public‑facing web applications in cloud environments including performance optimisation, authentication and scalable delivery of front‑end services. You will also possess strong interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills (verbal and written) and work effectively within a multi‑disciplinary team environment.
The position is based at AgriBio (a state‑of‑the‑art biosciences research centre) within the Plant Sciences Branch, a multidisciplinary team of 75+ scientists and technical staff with expertise spanning plant genetic resources, crop genetic improvement and breeding, grain quality and plant bioinformatics. You will join a collaborative, forward‑thinking research environment central to supporting Victoria’s and Australia’s grains industries, underpinned by world‑class infrastructure, leading ‘omics platforms and deep domain expertise across multiple scientific disciplines.
