Veterinary Pathologist

The position of Veterinary Pathologist is based within Agriculture Science and Technology (AST) at AgriBio, Bundoora, Victoria's premier biosecurity and agricultural research facility. Working within Biosecurity Sciences, Pests and Diseases (BSPD) - Veterinary Diagnostic Services (VDS), the role is central to the animal biosecurity efforts of Agriculture Victoria.  The Veterinary Pathologist provides passive surveillance through the diagnosis of hundreds of significant disease investigation cases submitted by government and private veterinarians, using histopathology together with a range of other diagnostic inputs. The role also plays a core part in emergency management activities, particularly in animal disease responses and bushfire recovery efforts.

The position provides specialist veterinary pathology advice to DEECA and senior staff and contributes to the development of collaborative networks with other institutions. In addition to these advisory responsibilities, the incumbent may develop research projects within their area of expertise and seek funding from state and federal government agencies, rural industry research corporations, and animal health companies.

AST's reputation as a leading research and development organisation is enhanced through the scientific publications, technical reports and presentations produced by the incumbent. The role also contributes to the dissemination of new knowledge through participation and presentations at national and international scientific conferences and meetings.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

• Mandatory
  • Degree in Veterinary Science (BVSc, DVM or equivalent).
  • Registration, or eligibility for registration, as a veterinarian in Victoria.
  • Completion of a recognised residency training program in Veterinary Pathology, or equivalent specialist training and experience.
  • Current Victorian Driver Licence.
• Desirable
  • Board certification, or eligibility for board certification through ACVP, ECVP, FRCPath, ANZCVS Pathobiology, or an equivalent recognised specialist college.

• PhD or Masters qualification.

This is a fixed term position available for a period of 24 months. The work location for this position is AgriBio Bundoora with hybrid work arrangements available.
