The Senior Inspector regulates exploration, mining, quarrying and petroleum operations, by conducting inspections and audits and ensuring activities undertaken are compliant with legislation and approvals through education and enforcement. The Senior Inspector actively investigates identified non-conformances and will work with local communities to ensure issues, concerns and complaints arising from operator activities are addressed in a timely and transparent manner.
The Senior Inspector plays a key part in developing and mentoring Inspectors and carries out the functions of an Inspector as delegated under all acts regulated by Resources Victoria and requires the highest level of integrity in decision making and interactions with regulated parties.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- Diploma in Government Investigations is mandatory – if not held, expected to be completed within an appropriate timeframe from appointment.
- A full Victorian driver’s licence is mandatory.
- Demonstrated ability to regulate and undertake compliance-related actions, including experience in conducting investigations for non-compliance and the application of enforcement measures, preferably in environmental, natural resources or a similar discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in the earth resources industry or a similar regulated industry and knowledge of the environmental and community issues associated with earth resources operations and the associated legislation.
- Demonstrated experience in training, mentoring and development of team members, with the ability to work under limited direction and as a member of a multi-disciplinary state-wide team.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including ability to prepare correspondence, briefs, reports and recommendations and contribution to the preparation of policies, procedures and standards.
- Demonstrated high-level negotiation and influencing skills with a proven ability to liaise with a wide range of stakeholders including community, industry, and internal stakeholders, building relationships to increase industry compliance through consistent, transparent actions, values, and communication.
- A tertiary qualification in environmental science, earth resources, natural resource management or other relevant discipline would be advantageous.
This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is Bendigo with hybrid work arrangements available.
