Heritage and Cultural Values Officer

The Heritage Officer supports the provision of expert advice on the protection and management of Historic and Aboriginal cultural heritage places, objects and values.
The Heritage Officer is responsible for assisting with desktop and on-ground cultural heritage values assessments that enable Regions and Districts to protect and manage cultural heritage during forest and fire management activities. These assessments are completed by working collaboratively with the Program Manager Cultural and Historic Heritage, Senior Heritage Specialist, Traditional Owners, Registered Aboriginal partners, partner agencies and Heritage Victoria.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- An appropriate qualification or demonstrated practical experience in Cultural Heritage Management, Archaeology, or Anthropology, and appropriate Geographical Information System (GIS) skills, or ability to acquire these.
- Knowledge of, and experience in the identification, protection, and management of Aboriginal cultural heritage places, objects, and values and Historic Heritage.
- The position requires an in-depth knowledge of Aboriginal culture and an ability to communicate with Aboriginal communities.
- Administration skills, including database management.
This is a fixed term position available for a period of 6 Months. The work location for this position is Flexible within the Gippsland Region with hybrid work arrangements available.
