As a Communications and Media Adviser, you’ll deliver engaging, community-focused communications across the Barwon South West and Grampians regions—supporting major initiatives, programs and ministerial priorities.
What you’ll do
In this role, you will:
- Develop and deliver end-to-end communications strategies across media, digital and social channels
- Develop high-quality content including media releases, speeches, web and social media content
- Provide timely and practical communications advice to regional leaders and program teams
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, media and partner agencies
- Support media and issues management, including reactive enquiries and proactive opportunities
- Ensure communications align with whole-of-government priorities and messaging
- Contribute to a collaborative, high-performing communications team
What we’re looking for
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- At least 3 years’ experience in communications, media or marketing
- Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to tailor content for different audiences
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
- Sound understanding of media and communications planning, channels and processes
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and a collaborative approach
- Experience in government communications (desirable)
You will also demonstrate capabilities in collaboration, problem solving, stakeholder partnering and delivering work to deadlines.
About the team
The Strategic Communications Division works across DEECA to deliver clear, consistent and impactful communications that build trust and protect the department’s reputation. You’ll be part of the Portfolio Communications Team for Regions, Environment, Climate Action and First Peoples; working closely with regional and Melbourne-based colleagues to deliver integrated communications and campaigns.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- Current driver licence.
- Minimum three years’ experience spanning communications, media and marketing.
- Contemporary knowledge of strategic communications and media channels and processes.
- Sound knowledge of and experience working in government would be desirable.
This is a fixed term position available for a period until 30 June 2027. The work location for this position is Flexible within Barwon South West and Grampians regions with hybrid work arrangements available.
