The Senior Geoscientist, Minerals is responsible for improving the understanding of Victoria’s geology by collecting, analysing and interpreting new and legacy geoscience data.  Focussing on areas prospective for minerals, including critical minerals, the Senior Geoscientist, Minerals supports Resources Victoria’s multidisciplinary geoscience mapping programs. The Senior Geoscientist, Minerals collaborates across Resources Victoria, Australian geological surveys, industry, and researchers to identify opportunities, share knowledge and deliver high-quality fit-for-purpose applied geoscience outputs. 

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • A tertiary qualification in geoscience including economic geology and a component of independent research (Honours minimum) is mandatory.
  • A current valid Victorian driver’s licence is mandatory.
  • Demonstrated experience in post-education geological mapping and mineral exploration drilling with demonstrated fit-for-purpose outputs.
  • Ability to design, collect and deliver high-quality geoscience data, especially geochemistry and geochronology, including QA/QC measures, to support multidisciplinary analytics and visualisation (2D and 3D).
  • Demonstrated conceptual and analytical skills with an ability to conduct and deliver independent applied research, testing and learning as part of a wider collaborative effort, including proven experience in applied lithogeochemistry, to decipher rock types, mineralisation and hydrothermal alteration, as part of mineral systems analysis.
  • Ability to lead, prepare and publish geoscience reports and associated analytical data, deliver presentations, and generate supporting material (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS, ioGAS, Adobe Illustrator, MS Office), all within a timely manner.
  • Ability to identify safety risks and implement practical risk mitigation safety measures, especially in the delivery of sampling and field work. CPR and First Aid certification would be advantageous.
  • Experience (including certification/training) safely and reliably operating (portable) X-Ray Florescence equipment would be an advantage.
  • A member of a national and/or international professional geological/geoscience organisation (e.g., MAIG, MAusIMM, SEG, GSA, etc) with registered geoscience professional status (e.g. RPGeo or designation through an equivalent scheme) is desired.

This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is flexible within Victoria with hybrid work arrangements available.
