Senior Asset Officer - Plant and Heavy Fleet

Support the management of critical plant and heavy fleet assets that keep Forest Fire Management Victoria safe, reliable and ready to respond.

The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) is seeking a Senior Asset Officer to support the management of critical plant and heavy fleet assets that underpin Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic) and broader emergency management operations across Victoria.

This is an opportunity to join a purpose-driven team responsible for ensuring assets are safe, compliant, reliable and operationally ready. You will work across a diverse portfolio of plant and heavy fleet assets, partnering with operational teams, suppliers, contractors and industry stakeholders to improve asset performance, maintenance planning, lifecycle management and operational readiness.

As a Senior Asset Officer, you will play a key role in strengthening asset management practices across the organisation by developing asset class plans, monitoring performance, managing compliance requirements and supporting evidence-based decision making. You will also lead and develop a small team while contributing to continuous improvement and innovation across asset management operations.

About the role

You will bring:

• experience managing assets across their lifecycle, including maintenance, compliance and performance monitoring
• successful project management and change management delivery experience
• the ability to develop and maintain asset class plans aligned with the Victorian Government Asset Management Accountability Framework (AMAF)
• strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret performance, risk and financial information and provide practical recommendations
• experience managing asset-related budgets, expenditure and performance reporting
• demonstrated experience building productive relationships with contractors, suppliers, stakeholders and operational partners
• leadership experience with the ability to mentor and develop team members while promoting a culture of continuous improvement
• a focus on safety, innovation, customer service and operational reliability
• a relevant degree, diploma or trade qualification
• a current driver's licence and willingness to obtain higher class licences if required
• a forklift licence (LF), or willingness to obtain one if required.

This role may require physically demanding activities including heavy lifting, prolonged standing and work in restricted or awkward environments. Significant travel across Victoria may be required, along with participation in emergency management activities during periods of heightened operational demand.
