The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action is seeking a Purchasing and Accounts Payable Officer to support purchasing, accounts payable and operational administration activities within the Commercial, Logistics and Resources Branch.

This is an opportunity to join a collaborative, purpose-driven team that plays a critical role in supporting Forest Fire Management Victoria and broader emergency management operations across Victoria. Your work will help ensure suppliers are paid accurately and on time, purchasing processes run efficiently, and critical assets and resources remain ready to support operational requirements.

About the role

As the Purchasing and Accounts Payable Officer, you will undertake a range of purchasing, invoice processing and financial administration activities to support branch operations.

Working closely with internal stakeholders, suppliers and operational teams, you will:

  • Raise purchase orders and process supplier invoices
  • Manage invoice matching, reconciliations and issue resolution
  • Respond to supplier and customer enquiries regarding payments and purchasing activities
  • Maintain accurate records and supporting documentation for compliance and audit purposes
  • Support fleet administration activities including fuel cards and asset movements
  • Assist with inventory ordering and stock control activities
  • Contribute to reporting, month-end processes and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support emergency management operations when required

You will bring:

  • Experience in purchasing, accounts payable or financial administration
  • Confidence using financial systems, ideally Oracle or similar enterprise platforms
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records
  • Sound problem-solving skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • A customer-focused approach and excellent communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and quality service delivery
  • A current driver's licence and willingness to travel within Victoria when required
  • Forklift license may be required
