Project Manager

DEECA’s Project Management & Delivery team help shape the digital and data solutions that support Victoria's bushfire, emergency management and public land operations. In this role, you'll work on complex and meaningful initiatives that improve how data is collected, integrated, analysed and used to support critical operational and strategic decisions across the state.

The opportunity

As a Project Manager, you'll play a leading role in delivering innovative technology and data initiatives across Bushfire and Forest Services. You'll partner with stakeholders across DEECA and our partner agencies to deliver complex technology projects to solve business challenges and implement solutions that deliver real-world outcomes.

This is a role for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of people, process, data and technology.  This is a hands-on role with a key focus on software delivery across multiple projects work stream.

To be successful in the role, in a matrix environment you will lead a team of Software Developers, Business Analysts, Change Managers and other relevant technical roles through agile processes through the end-to-end design, development and implementation of a new fit for purpose planning and approvals system.   

Key to your success is your extensive delivery management experience in agile software development projects and working collaboratively with stakeholder to define and deliver business value.

What you'll do

• Deliver projects & software development projects using hybrid project management methodologies (Agile/Waterfall).
• Facilitate Scrum delivery, coaching the team, removing impediments, and ensuring disciplined, transparent and high performing Agile execution.
• Hands on creation, maintenance and management of user stories and associated artifacts in Jira.
• Deliver projects in line with agreed scope, budget and timelines.
• Ensure effective change management planning and execution is delivered in collaboration with change management resources.
• Ensure project outputs are of the highest quality and meet the needs of the stakeholders.

About you

We're looking for a seasoned Project Manager who brings:

• Strong stakeholder engagement, facilitation and influencing skills
• A passion for and extensive experience working through ambiguity to deliver well plan and executed projects.
• Strong ability to collaborate with a diverse group of stakeholders and their interests.
• The confidence to drive for results, manage up and keep stakeholders informed of progress, issues and challenges. You know when to seek support and escalate.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

Must Have:

• Evidence of strong stakeholder management
• Demonstrated experience managing software development projects
• Prior experience of using Atlassian products including Jira. 

Highly Desirable:

• Experience working in the private and public sector.  
• Agile Project Management qualifications such as AgilePM. 
• Formal Project Management qualifications such as Prince 2 or PMI. 

This is an ongoing position. The primary work location for this position is at 8 Nicholson St, Melbourne, with hybrid work arrangements available.
