Program Officer, Strategic Approvals and Referrals

Date: 13 Aug 2026

Location: Melbourne, VIC, AU

Company: DEECA

Are you the right person to navigate the complexities of environmental protection with delivery of critical bushfire and forest management activities?

This role is critical to DEECA aligning its Bushfire management program with requirements of Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988.

The Planning and Authorisation Branch sits at the intersect of planning and delivery, policy, scientific inquiry and legal interpretation, and is the link in turning policy and strategy into planning and delivery. In the role you would support our work through undertaking complex analysis of challenging environmental problems to develop practical solutions in consideration of operational requirements. You would have a strong understanding of the EPBC Act and FFG Act requirements, be able to collaborate with a range of DEECA teams and clearly communicate.

The Values Management Team is small and dynamic, pivoting where necessary to address high priority challenges. We’re supportive, values driven, encourage new ideas and professional growth.

You will be challenged in the role, but will have the opportunity to help guide an important and increasingly prominent area of work within the Department.
