The Manager, Energy Security Policy and Preparedness, leads the team responsible for developing policy and providing expert advice on risk management of energy (electricity, gas and liquid fuels) supply and demand with a short to medium-term time horizon.

You and your team collaborate across government and industry to deliver intelligence on the operation of energy systems and related government actions, provide policy advice on supply and demand risks, take action leveraging on existing reliability mechanisms, and inform doctrine developed for emergency management.

The team develops strategies and interventions to improve the reliability and security of Victoria's energy system to ensure it effectively manages sector risks, including seasonal and cyber security challenges.

You will work closely with the Manager, Energy Emergency Management team, to coordinate the delivery of energy emergency management responsibilities.

The role requires strong people management and stakeholder management skills with the ability to deliver outcomes in a complex, sensitive and ambiguous operating environment.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification(s) in science, engineering, law, economics, public policy, natural resource or environmental management, business management or similar is desirable.
  • A sound understanding of and experience in the public sector, including knowledge and experience with the structure of government and its regulatory and policy decision-making processes (desirable).
  • Demonstrated understanding of current energy policy, national energy market frameworks and the Victorian electricity and gas markets (desirable).

This is a fixed term position available until 30 June 2029. The work location for this position is 8 Nicholson St, East Melbourne with hybrid work arrangements available.
