The Geoscientist, Minerals supports the collection, analysis and integration of geoscience data to help deliver the Victorian Critical Minerals Roadmap. The Geoscientist works closely with colleagues to assist with field and office-based work, while building technical skills and professional judgement.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- A tertiary qualification in geoscience (Honours minimum) including economic geology studies and an independent research component is mandatory.
- A current valid Victorian driver’s licence is mandatory.
- Experience in collecting geoscience data in the field and/or laboratory setting.
- Demonstrated conceptual and analytical skills, with the ability to contribute to geoscience research, testing and analysis, both independently and with guidance.
- Ability to prepare high-quality geoscience outputs, including data, maps and supporting material (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS, ioGAS, Adobe Illustrator, MS Office) for reports/publications, datasets and presentations.
- Ability to identify safety risks and apply practical mitigation measures, particularly in field or laboratory environments.
- Membership of a geoscience organisation (e.g., MAIG, MAusIMM, SEG, GSA, etc) would be well regarded.
- Experience or training in the safe operation of portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) equipment would be advantageous.
- CPR and First Aid certification is desired.
This is a fixed term position available until 30 June 2027. The work location for this position is Melbourne CBD with hybrid work arrangements available.
