The Budget Analyst role within the Budget Management and Partnerships branch is a key role in providing advice and information on a broad range of budget and financial management activities. The role provides support around financial analysis and budget advice to Groups and key stakeholders.
The role supports the team to coordinate budget management processes for DEECA with the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF). This includes monitoring the departments budgets, analysing changes to the department’s budgets, contributing the annual state budget process. The role will require to perform the data administration of the budget management system (Axiom) and Chart of Accounts (CoA) codes. With a degree in accounting, finance or commerce (desirable), the role requires high level conceptual and analytical skills, a focus on detail and ability to build effective relationships along with strong written skills.
The successful candidate will bring practical experience using Microsoft 365 applications—specifically Excel, Power BI, Word and PowerPoint—to support effective analysis and communication.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- Degree in accounting, finance or commerce or equivalent is desirable
- Expertise in best practice budgeting within government and knowledge of the Financial Management Act is preferred
- Demonstrated experience in analysing and reporting on budget management activities.
- Experience in administrating state resource management system and/or budget management systems is required
This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is flexible within Victoria with hybrid work arrangements available.
