The Biodiversity Assessment Officer (Energy and Major Projects) provides high quality environmental advice to support the delivery of DEECAs renewable energy and major project priorities across the State. The role will combine technical biodiversity knowledge with well-developed problem-solving, collaboration and outcome-focused skills to effectively manage risk to Victoria's natural environment for communities, while supporting energy and major projects and programs in regions.
The key focus of this role will be to support decision-making by providing environmental and biodiversity advice. The role will support environment portfolio case-management for planning referrals and other project proposals, assist with managing biodiversity risks on the public land estate, and work with Traditional Owners, other partners and stakeholders to support priority activities in regions.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- An appropriate tertiary qualification related to natural resource management, environmental or ecological sciences, or another relevant field is mandatory.
- Demonstrated ability to apply environmental and biodiversity assessment processes, focused on biodiversity risk management, native vegetation policy, and related legislation is desirable.
- Understanding of public land management as it relates to mitigation of risks to threatened species is desirable.
This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is flexible within the Port Phillip and Loddon Mallee Regions with hybrid work arrangements available.
