Reporting to the Regional Manager, Plants, Chemicals and Invasives – South West, the Biosecurity Manager South West provides strategic and operational leadership for a multidisciplinary team delivering biosecurity services across the region. The role is responsible for supporting the Victorian community and agricultural industry to prepare for, prevent and manage biosecurity risks and impacts.
The position leads and oversees programs relating to invasive plant and animal management, plant biosecurity, pest and disease surveillance to support market access, monitoring of agricultural chemical use, and preparedness for and response to biosecurity and agricultural emergency and relief events.
The Biosecurity Manager South West demonstrates strong leadership, technical expertise, stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills. The role supports regional staff to strengthen partnerships with clients and key stakeholders, driving continuous improvement and effective program outcomes.
The position establishes and maintains strong working relationships with internal colleagues and a wide range of external stakeholders, including private landholders, community and industry groups, and local and state government agencies.
This position exercises statutory responsibilities under the Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994, Plant Biosecurity Act 2010, and the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals (Control of Use) Act 1992.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
Mandatory Qualification
- Tertiary degree in Agricultural Science, Science or an equivalent science qualification. Candidates must have these qualifications to be considered eligible and verification is required prior to appointment.
This is a fixed term position until 30 June 2027. The work location for this position is flexible within South West Region with hybrid work arrangements available.
